Cows are a passive animal mobs found on the overworld of Minecraft. Cows spawn on grass in light areas, and are very common to run upon. The main drop of cows is leather, dropping from 0 to 2 of them upon death. The leather can be used to make armour. However, cows can also be right clicked with a bucket to gain a bucket of milk. Additionally, cows also drop raw beef upon death, which is a source of food (restores 3 food of your food bar). It can drop from one to three pieces of raw beef, This can be cooked using a furnace. If the player sets the cow on fire, the cow will drop steak instead of raw beef.

Minecraft
For the mob in Minecraft Dungeons, see MCD:Mooshroom.
Not to be confused with MCE:Moobloom or Mushroom.
Mooshrooms are mushroom-covered variants of cows exclusive to the rare mushroom fields biome.
Spawning[]
Java Edition[]
Red mooshrooms can spawn in mushroom fieldsbiomes in herds of 4–8 when the light level is 9 or higher and on Mycelium. They do not naturally spawn in any other biome. A red mooshroom transforms into a brown mooshroom (and vice versa) when it is struck by lightning. Brown mooshrooms never spawn naturally.
Bedrock Edition[]
Mooshrooms spawn at light level 7 or above in mushroom fields and mushroom field shore biomes. 5% of them spawn as babies.
Breeding[]
Main article: Breeding
A pair of mooshrooms can breed after being given wheat. A mooshroom cannot be bred with a cow unless the mooshroom has been sheared.
Feeding wheat to a calf shortens its growing time by 10% of the remaining time.
Baby mooshrooms do not have mushrooms on their backs. Mushrooms appear once the baby grows to an adult.
Breeding two red mooshrooms has a 1⁄1024 chance to spawn a brown baby variant and vice versa.
When breeding a red mooshroom and a brown mooshroom together, there is 1⁄2 chance of getting a red baby variant, and a 1⁄2 chance of getting a brown baby variant.
Drops[]
When an adult mooshroom is killed, it drops:
- 0–2 Leather. The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of looting, for a maximum of 0-5 with Looting III.
- 1–3 Raw Beef (Steak if killed while on fire). The maximum amount is increased by 1 per level of looting, for a maximum of 1-6 with Looting III.
- 1–3 (when killed by a player or tamed wolf)
Upon successful breeding, 1–7 is dropped.
Shearing a mooshroom drops 5 corresponding mushrooms and turns the mooshroom into a normal cow, emitting a smaller version of the explosion particle. The mushrooms don't grow back.
Like other baby animals, killing a baby mooshroom yields no items or experience.
Milking[]
A mooshroom can be milked by using a bucket on it, yielding a milk bucket. The player can then use the milk bucket to consume the milk, which removes any status effects from the player.
Mooshrooms can also be milked with bowls to give mushroom stew.
When a small flower is used on a brown mooshroom, the brown mooshroom produces a suspicious stew related to that small flower the next time it is milked with a bowl. The mooshroom returns to producing mushroom stew until fed another small flower. The small flowers produce the suspicious stew with the following effects.
Behavior[]
Mooshrooms have the same AI behavior as cows: they tend to walk around slowly and aimlessly, huffing and mooing occasionally. They avoid danger such as cliffs, fire or lava, but make no attempt to stay out of water.
A mooshroom follows a player holding wheat.
Red mooshrooms convert to brown mooshrooms, and brown convert to red when they are struck by lightning.

How to build food farms in Minecraft Java Edition easily
In Minecraft, players have to manage their health and hunger. Both health and hunger are linked to one another. Players can recover their health by filling up their hunger bar.
Earlier versions of Minecraft did not have a hunger bar. Eating food used to instantly restore health points. Nowadays, players have to fill their hunger bar to recover their health. If the hunger bar is at three hunger points or below, the player won't be able to sprint.
Eating food is necessary for maintaining health points and moving faster. In the starting days, beginner players have a hard time surviving as they lack food, shelter, and knowledge. This article shares some food farms that are easy and quick to build.

How to build food farms in Minecraft
Food in Minecraft can be broadly divided into two categories: Plant and animal-based.
A simple crop farm

Players can get wheat seeds by breaking grass. These seeds can be planted into tilled blocks. Players can till the dirt/glass blocks near water using a hoe. Water hydrates all blocks within a four-block distance.
After tilling the land, plant the wheat seeds into the tilled blocks. Players can plant all the seeds in Minecraft in the same way. Wheat seeds can take up to six in-game days to fully grow. Players can increase the growth rate by using bonemeal and bees.
The harvested wheat can be crafted into bread, which recovers two and a half hunger points.
An Animal Ranch

After farming some wheat, players can build an animal ranch in Minecraft. Cows and sheep are attracted to wheat. Players can use wheat to lure animals into a farming area.
Players can feed wheat to two cows or sheep and make them breed. After filling the ranch with animals, players can farm them to get their drops. Cows drop leather and beef, whereas sheep drop raw mutton and wool.
Players can cook their raw meat to get their cooked variant, which recovers more hunger points than raw meat.

Players can build a semi-automatic cow farm by just using a hopper, chest, and some blocks. In Minecraft, there is a limit to how many entities can stay inside one block. This farm abuses the entity's limit to kill cows inside it.
On this farm, players feed the adult cows, who then produce baby calves. When the entity limit is reached, Minecraft automatically kills the adult cows. Although this might not sound like the most humane way to do things, it is surprisingly effective.

Supported Platforms
Cows are available in the following versions of Minecraft:

NOTE: Pocket Edition (PE), Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Windows 10 Edition are now called Bedrock Edition. We will continue to show them individually for version history.
Background
The following is a picture of what a cow looks like in Minecraft:
Hostility Level (Passive)
A cow is a passive mob. The term mob is short for mobile and is used to refer to all living, moving creatures in the game such as chickens, creepers, and cows. Because a cow is a passive mob, it will never attack you in the game (Creative or Survival mode).
Health Points
In Minecraft, a cow has 5 hearts for health. This gives a cow 10 health points (because 1 heart = 2 health points). To kill a cow, you need to inflict 10 points of damage to the cow.
Where to Find Cows
In Minecraft, cows can be found in most Overworld biomes on land. If you are having trouble finding a cow, you can summon a cow using a cheat or you can use a spawn egg.
Weapon
A cow does not carry a weapon.
Attack Method
You are safe to walk near a cow and it will not attack or cause you any damage. And if you attack a cow, it will just try to run away. It will not attack you back.
Drops
When you kill a cow in Minecraft, it may drop one or more of the following items: raw beef or leather.
Make sure you pick up any dropped items before they disappear. They are useful and should be kept in your inventory to be used later.

Experience Points
As you play the game, you will gain experience. The most common way to gain experience is by killing mobs. When a mob is killed you will see tiny green and yellow balls appear and move towards you.
These orbs represent experience points. When you kill a cow, you will gain 1-3 experience points.
Spawn Egg for Cow
You can spawn a cow using the following spawn egg:
