MSI PRO B450M PRO-VDH MAX AM4 AMD B450 SATA 6Gb/s Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Pros: My main reason for picking this board was that I could navigate the memory QVL easier than the others that were on my short list. Otherwise, it's pretty much a parity product. Two system fan headers, nice heat sink on the regulator, the memory sticks slots are of the single side latching type so easier to install than some. It fired right up the first try and was been working flawlessly since. And the bungleware... sorry, bundleware isn't terrible. I didn't even bother with a new Windows installation, just updated drivers and stuff. (I know, I know... but I'm too lazy to copy almost a TB of pictures plus all of the other stuff, and my family won't give me the time anyway.)
Cons: Only one long PCIE slot, I'm using the on-board graphics on a '2400G so not anything that affects me, but someone may need two. The only things that affects me personally are that the fan headers are too far from the front of the case; I'm going to have to get an extension for my front fan. Also, only 4 SATA ports, which I think is normal for this class. Not a huge deal, but I'm going to have to get rid of one of my backup drives.
Overall Review: This board matches my previous experience with MSI boards. Nice and stable, no frills, solid build quality. The solder looked about the same as most... what looks like some hand touch-ups are visible but well done, and they left a film from the flux cleaner, but I've only seen one brand that doesn't. (Starts with a G. You may love them or hate them, but you can't fault their solder.) Solid "B" on that aspect. The back has a clearly marked "no standoff zone." The brackets for an aftermarket processor heat sink have to be removed for the stock heat sink, but the back plate didn't fall off when they were removed. That was the first time that I've seen that, and there's no mention in the quick-start guide. I don't overclock. Waaaaaay back in the K6 days I tried it, and it didn't make any difference in day to day tasks, so I figured it wasn't worth the stress on the components, so I can't help you there. Like another machine that I built using a '2400G, it boots and is stable in the desktop before the monitor is fully on. That's a normal LED backlit monitor, not an old CRT or something like that. -AnXRockStar
