Question:Q:

I just got off the phone with Apple. They say I can gift my iTunes balance to another account. The instructions for this process are said to be online, but I can't find them anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:A:

My issue is resolved. Much thanks to Apple for helping me out.

First of all, terminology is key. You cannot gift your balance to someone else. However, you can put an UNUSED balance back to the original gift card. In contacting Apple for help, make sure you use the proper terminology for your issue.

To put it another way, if you redeem a gift card but don't use any of the money on it, you can have the full original balance put back on the gift card. At that point, give the card to someone else or redeem it on another account. If you're simply trying to gift or transfer a balance, you're not going to be able to do that.

I don't know who you talked to an Apple, but they either were confused about what you were asking or just flat wrong (the iTunes Store has no phone support and Apple's hardware and software technicians often aren't fully knowledgable about iTunes Store policies and issues). It's generally not possible to transfer a credit balance from one user to another. The only time where this is possible is if you have just redeemed an iTunes card or monetary gift certificate and not spent any of that credit yet. In such a case the iTunes Store can sometimes "transfer" that amount back to the card/certificate so it can be redeemed in another iTunes Store account. Otherwise, again, it's not possible.

Regards.

You'll have to contact the iTunes Store and ask if there will be anything they can do for you in that circumstance.

How to Transfer iTunes Credit/Money to Another Account

Brian Fisher updated on 2021-10-09 11:28:00

iTunes credit are basically store points which can be used in lieu of money to purchase apps and songs from the official Apple online marketplace, the iStore. The credit can be bought from iTunes in whichever denomination you want. The interesting part about these are the credit can be transferref from one person to another. So one account can transfer credit to another account. So now instead of gifting someone a music CD you can simply gift them iTunes credit for them to buy whichever song or album they widh to. Isn’t that cool?

Well, you just need to follow these simple steps to complete the entire process:

    itunes-credit01

    1. In case you do not have an iTunes account, you need to make one. You can then only buy iTunes credit. That is not something to worry about as the software is available online free of cost.

    itunes-credit02

    2. Once you’ve downloaded the iTunes software you need to launch it on your PC.

    itunes-credit03

    3. Now you need to head for the iTunes Store. You can find “Store” on the menu bar at thr top. You need to click on that at the top left part of the screen and choose “Home” from the menu tht appears. Now you need to login your Apple ID unless you’ve done it already. In case you have, you will be directed to the home page of the iTunes Store directly. In case you do not have an Apple ID you need to make one.

    itunes-credit04

    4. You’ll find the “Quick Links” panel on the right side of the Window. There you will find the option “Send iTunes gift” and a small window appears.

    itunes-credit05

    5. Now you need to fill up a form with all your account information. The email address you enter should be a valid Apple account. Otherwise it would not be possible for you to send your gift. Type the name in the “Sender” field along with a message in the provided space. You need to choose the credit amount you wish to gift. It can be any amount according to your wish and there are a few common preloaded options. You can also choose when you want to send the gift. You could send it instantly as well as send it at a later date. Then the gift would be forwarded at the entered date and time even if you are offline. Then click “Next”.

    itunes-credit06

    6. Now you can alter the aesthetics of the card by selecting the appropriate theme. The receiver will receive the gift with a virtual card of the theme you select.

    itunes-credit07

    7. In the last step, there will be a window displaying the overview of the gift clearly and once you’ve reviewed it, you’re ready to hit “Done”.

✅ How To Change Payment Method On iTunes From Start To Finish 🔴

How to Give iTunes Credit as a Gift

    What to Know

    • Most popular: Purchase a physical gift card ($15 to $200) from the iTunes Store or retailers.
    • To buy and send a gift certificate, select Send Gift in the iTunes Store. To send a specific product, select the product > Gift This.
    • You can give anyone an iTunes credit, but they'll need a free Apple ID to redeem the credit.

This article explains the different ways you can gift someone with an iTunes credit to spend on games, movies, apps, and more.

Your Options When Giving iTunes Store Credit

You have several options when you want to give someone credit to be used in the iTunes Store or App Store.

    • Physical iTunes Gift Cards:This is probably the most popular way people purchase gift credit from the iTunes Store. In addition to buying gift cards directly from Apple's online service, you can buy gift cards at thousands of retail stores across the country. The cards come in different designs and are preloaded with a set amount of credit, typically $15, $25, $50, $100, or $200. However, if you're short on time, or the person you are giving the card to is a long distance away, then this may not be the best method.
    • iTunes Gift Certificates: Select the SendGift option on the iTunes Store to give an iTunes Gift Certificate. This option allows you to either purchase credit and print a certificate yourself or send the gift via email, which is useful for when time isn't on your side. Choosing the amount of credit you buy is the same as for physical gift cards, except that everything is done through the iTunes store. You choose a prepaid amount, ranging from $15 to $200.
    • Gifting Songs, Albums, Apps, and More:If you want to choose a specific item from the iTunes Store instead of giving credit, then this method is for you. If you know someone likes a particular artist, you can send them a personal gift. This feature isn't limited to songs and albums. There are all sorts of other iTunes Store gifts you can send, including apps, movies, and TV shows. You can also compile your own custom-made playlists and gift those. To send a specific product, view it on the iTunes Store. Select the Gift This... option from the drop down menu next to the Buy button. A short form is displayed where you can choose either to print out a certificate to present in person or instantly email the gift to the recipient.

Does the Recipient Need an iTunes Account?

Although it is more convenient for the recipient to already have an iTunes account, you can give anyone iTunes credit regardless of whether they use Apple's online store. However, in order for them to redeem the gift and purchase digital products, the recipient needs an Apple ID, which is free. It is the recipient who applies for the Apple ID, which is the credential necessary to log in to the iTunes website and redeem the credit.

While you cannot transfer the gift card to another account, and it will only apply to your device for family sharing, to the extent that you purchase the content your son would want from your device with the gift card, it would still be shared with him through the natural family sharing process.
